A number of people have commented on the cover image of Salma Hayek on our spring women’s fashion issue. The cover story was a piece that, as the reporter Gaby Wood mentions in her opening paragraph, took as its starting point some iconic ’60s and ’70s images from the history of fashion. The cover portrait of Hayek was inspired by an image taken by the fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky. It has been brought to our attention that the contemporary artist Josephine Meckseper produced a similar image in 2003. The photographer and T’s editors were unaware of that work.
